Learning Tips
I tried to make this Russian Language Course as easy as it could be. In order to benefit most from it, please follow these rules:
Download the audio Mp3 lessons to your computer, iPod, Mp3 player, whatever.
After you sign up, you will get access to PDF transcripts. It is very useful to have a transcript you can read, while you are listening to the lesson.
Listen to the lesson. Each time you hear a Russian word or phrase, make sure you understand exactly how it sounds. Repeat it a few times until you get used to the way it sounds and feel you can recognize it.
Try to pronounce the word or the phrase. Imitate what you hear, even if it sounds somewhat odd. Don’t be shy, try to make fun of it!
Drill pronunciation of the phrase, while looking into the transcript. Listen to the phrase again and again, whenever needed. Repeat it a few times, until you can say it confidently and fluently.
Then drill the phrase without looking into the transcript. You may say it a few times to an object in your vicinity. Make fun of it! Repeat it until you can say it confidently and fluently without the transcript.
Especially at the beginning, do not expect you will remember everything you've learnt at once. Don't be surprised, if you FEEL you can not remember phrases you learnt just an hour ago. This is a very common feeling, but this is not true! Repeat a lesson the next day and you will realize how much you DO remember.
Repetition is vital for your success. Listen to a lesson as many times as you need until you recognize each word in it. Pronounce it again and again until you are confident. From time to time, return to the lessons you have already learnt and listen to them again.
Practice what you have learned any time you have a chance. This could be your language learning partner, a Russian friend etc. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. It is NATURAL for a language learner to make mistakes. Just be confident and make sure you have followed the 'drilling' rules above - they assist in building up confidence and eliminating mistakes.
From time to time you may record yourself saying the Russian phrases and listen as if it were someone else. Compare your pronunciation to mine.
Never give up! Keep up with your own learning schedule, set up real targets and reach them!
